new postcards
Composed using scans of public domain postcards from online collections, archives and image-sharing platforms, this series explores how digital images are repurposed and reanimated, sometimes in unanticipated ways. Reflecting how computer vision algorithms pick out entities and elements of images with annotated “bounding boxes”, the postcards use a series of layered rectangular crops in order to highlight, filter and recombine details, textures, figures, objects and backgrounds. The resulting synthetic scenes and situations suggest other ways of seeing and noticing what is depicted within and across image collections. Printed postcard set available here.
